Welcome to the inaugural issue of the "Journal of Forensic Science and Medicine" (JFSM), the official publication of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, China University of Political Science and Law.

The development of forensic science and medicine can be traced back to the early 12 th century. The first scientific document that mentions the use of forensics in legal matters is the book, Xi Yuan Ji Lu (The Washing Away of Wrongs or Collected Cases of Injustice Rectified) authored by the Chinese scholar Song Ci (1186-1249). In the 16 th century, the use of forensic science spread across Europe. At the beginning of the 19 th century, the field of forensic sciences began to develop rapidly and has progressed to a well established academic specialization in the past two decades.

This new journal will help to promote scientific research in the field of forensic science and medicine. The editorial mission of the JFSM is to advance forensic science and medicine by publishing high quality and peer-reviewed research manuscripts that encompass a wide range of topics, including, but not limited to, criminalistics, digital and multimedia sciences, engineering, forensic anthropology, forensic clinical medicine, forensic odontology, forensic pathology, forensic biology, forensic radiology, forensic toxicology, jurisprudence, questioned documents, forensic psychiatry, and behavioral science. The search for truth is the essence of forensic science and medicine. I believe that the manuscripts published in our first issue have embodied our journal's principles.

I am honored to be the Editor in Chief of this journal. I wish to express my immense gratitude to our honorary Editors in Chief Dr. Baosheng Zhang, Dr. Christophe Champod, Dr. Thomas Noguchi, and Dr. Yao Liu. I would also like to thank Dr. Lin Chang and Dr. Dong Zhao of the Institute of Evidence Law and Forensic Science, China University of Political Science and Law, the staff at the Wolters Kluwer Health, and all the editorial board members for their support, outstanding services, and collaborations. The launch of this journal would not have been possible without the support and teamwork rendered. On behalf of the journal, I would also like to acknowledge the authors who submitted their manuscripts for publication as well as those whose articles have been published in the inaugural issue of this journal.
