An outbreak of COVID-19 caused by the 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) emerged in Wuhan, China, in December 2019 and has spread throughout China and all over the world. On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 outbreak a pandemic. The human, social, and economic impact of 2019 novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) is unprecedented in human history. Forensic medicine utilizing evidence-based science has played significant roles in the criminal and civil justice and in public health and safety as well in China. In face of COVID-19 pandemic, forensic medical professionals are facing great challenges in dealing with current socioeconomic and health crisis and, at the same time, facing high risk of potential infection during their daily practice. The institutions and individuals in forensic community should take necessary precautionary measures and follow the national guidelines during this unprecedented time. For this purpose, we have organized this special issue in the hope that the guidelines, comments, and recommendations from the Chinese forensic authority, and experts will better assist forensic practice in medicolegal investigations during the COVID-19 pandemic and in future outbreak of infectious diseases.
